42 Kuala Lumpur, U Mobile bridge digital gap for youth in Malaysia

  • 42KL and U Mobile have helped over 100 newcomers upskill in tech
  • Successful attendees qualify for a free 4-week coding boot camp and other programmes

42 Kuala Lumpur (42KL) has successfully concluded its Open Day in partnership with U Mobile, Malaysia’s future second 5G network provider.

With a shared goal of bridging the digital divide and equipping more Malaysian youth with essential digital skills, 42KL and U Mobile’s partnership has impacted over 100 participants with no prior coding experience eager to upskill in tech.

Participants engaged with a proprietary puzzle designed to assess logical thinking and problem-solving skills. They were also introduced to 42KL’s unique learning model, which emphasises peer learning, project-based education, and gamification.

This innovative approach fosters collaboration, practical skill development, and an engaging learning experience while breaking down traditional barriers to technology education.

Attendees who passed the challenge are now eligible for a free four-week coding boot camp and other programmes, paving the way for their journey into tech.

“At 42 Kuala Lumpur, we believe collaboration with corporate partners like U Mobile amplifies the impact of our initiatives. By working with industry leaders, we can open doors to tech education, helping individuals unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s digital future,” said Jeff Sandhu, chief operating officer of 42 Malaysia.

“With 42 Malaysia’s mission to develop 10,000 skilled tech talents over the next decade, partnerships like this bring us closer to making that vision a reality. As Malaysia’s future second 5G network provider, we are committed to empowering the next generation through technology by providing access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in a digital future,” he added.

“This partnership with 42 Kuala Lumpur not only narrows the digital gap but also inspires Malaysian youth and future innovators to realise their full potential. It aligns with U Mobile’s sustainability priorities on digital inclusion and youth empowerment while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a technology-driven high-income nation,” added Tiffany Chew, head of communications and sustainability at U Mobile.

In advancing Malaysia’s digital agenda, initiatives like 42KL’s Open Day play a crucial role in connecting diverse communities with opportunities to excel in the digital economy. Through this collaboration, 42KL and U Mobile are making strides in closing the digital divide, fostering innovation, and empowering individuals to shape a brighter future.

42KL is the first campus under 42 Malaysia, a nation-building initiative led by Sunway Education Group and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, aiming to develop 10,000 skilled tech talents over the next 10 years. Launched in 2020, it has since expanded to 42 Iskandar Puteri in Johor and 42 Penang. 42 Malaysia continues to grow, providing greater access to world-class tech education.
