Yayasan Hasanah and Carsome Academy have partnered to provide scholarships for 25 students from B40 communities under Carsome Academy’s EmpowerYouth+ initiative. This collaboration aims to uplift underserved youth in rural Malaysia by granting them access to industry-aligned automotive TVET programmes, designed to create sustainable livelihoods and bridge critical skills gaps in the automotive workforce.

The EmpowerYouth+ initiative is supported by Yayasan Hasanah and the Ministry of Finance under the Hasanah Special Grant.

It seeks to drive positive change by equipping young individuals with technical automotive skills, leadership development, and livelihood support. Participants will receive a one-off relocation allowance to attend Carsome Academy in Petaling Jaya, along with a monthly stipend covering living expenses, accommodation, and travel.

Carsome Academy is also offering over 30% discounts on the scholarship fee. This collaboration aims to cultivate skilled technicians while reducing reliance on foreign labour, aligning with Malaysia’s growing automotive sector, which was projected to reach a market value of US$8.32 billion (RM37 billion) in 2024.

Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, trustee and managing director of Yayasan Hasanah, remarked: “At Yayasan Hasanah, we aim to go beyond providing equitable access to education by equipping our youth with future-ready skills through quality TVET training that leads to sustainable careers. This partnership with Carsome Academy is an investment in their potential, preparing them with industry-relevant automotive skills, hands-on training in Carsome workshops, and the confidence to build livelihoods.

“Beyond themselves, through initiatives like EmpowerYouth+, these individuals are not only securing economic opportunities but also contributing to Malaysia’s advancement in the automotive sector, while uplifting their families and communities,” she added.

Teoh Jiun Ee, co-founder and CEO of Carsome Academy, shared: “Partnering with Yayasan Hasanah on this initiative is a crucial step towards our shared goal of uplifting underserved communities. By providing young people with both the technical skills and leadership qualities needed for success, we are not only opening doors for them in the automotive industry but also helping them build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

“The grant’s structure ensures that students and their families need not worry about the cost of relocating to urban areas to study and find job opportunities that will improve their economic prospects,” he added.

This collaboration is part of Yayasan Hasanah’s commitment to championing inclusive and sustainable development across Malaysia. By partnering with Carsome Academy, the grant ensures that young individuals, particularly from rural B40 communities, receive the technical, personal, and professional support needed to thrive in a competitive job market. The ten-month programme focuses on bridging skills gaps in the automotive sector while providing holistic personal development through additional modules such as CV writing, interview skills, IT proficiency, and leadership training.

Key areas of collaboration include:

  • Full scholarships for 25 underprivileged youth to pursue TVET courses at Carsome Academy.
  • Comprehensive TVET training, combining practical and classroom learning, with a 70% focus on hands-on experience.
  • Livelihood support to reduce students’ financial burdens, including living expenses, accommodation, and travel allowances.
  • On-the-job training with major automotive industry players such as Carsome, Proton, and Chery.
  • Career pathway development to equip participants with skills aligned with the automotive sector’s needs.

Upon graduation, students will be prepared for roles such as service advisors, junior inspectors, and automotive technicians.
