- CT Sabah will upgrade 4G sites and add new ones for U Mobile’s 5G rollout

U Mobile, Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network provider, has signed a Term Sheet agreement to appoint Celcom Timur Sabah (CT Sabah), a leading provider of high-speed fibre optic infrastructure in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, to deploy 5G leased circuits in the region. In a statement, the telco said that, upon finalisation of the Definitive Agreement, it will leverage CT Sabah’s robust fibre infrastructure to support and accelerate its upcoming 5G rollout in the area.
It added that, as part of the agreement, CT Sabah will upgrade its existing 4G leased circuit sites to 5G and develop additional leased circuit sites to meet the requirements of the country’s newest 5G network provider. U Mobile will also benefit from CT Sabah’s extensive fibre network, which spans over 10,000 kilometres across Sabah and Labuan, ensuring strong, stable, and high-capacity connectivity for both enterprises and consumers in the region.
“We are committed to accelerating 5G coverage nationwide, and with CT Sabah on board, it further strengthens our ability to meet rollout goals and deliver a superior 5G experience that is highly reliable, supports massive capacity, and delivers ultra-fast speeds to benefit enterprises and consumers across Malaysia,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile.
“U Mobile is ready to play an even greater role in narrowing the digital divide, aligning with national ambitions of making Malaysia a high-income digital nation,” he added.
“CT Sabah is committed to advancing digital connectivity in Sabah and Labuan, and we view the 5G rollout as a critical step towards unlocking new opportunities for the region. This initiative will enable digital transformation, drive economic growth, and improve the quality of life for communities,” said Zurinah Datuk Hanafiah, CEO of CT Sabah.
“Our partnership with U Mobile is a key enabler in this effort, and we are proud to support their 5G expansion by delivering robust and reliable fibre infrastructure,” she added.
The Term Sheet was signed by Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile, and Zurinah Datuk Hanafiah, CEO of CT Sabah, and witnessed by Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, and Shaharul Niza Mohamad, CFO of CT Sabah. The Definitive Agreement is expected to be finalised by Q3 2025.
