Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), in collaboration with China Mobile International, ZTE, and Ericsson, and supported by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, hosted the “Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing with 5G and AI” workshop. This third instalment in the series aimed to encourage Malaysian manufacturers in the Southern region, particularly in Johor, to adopt digital solutions.
Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, the workshop was inaugurated by the minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo. The full-day event brought together representatives from the manufacturing and technology industries, alongside state and federal government entities.
The event provided a vital platform for industry leaders, domain experts, and stakeholders to shape the future of manufacturing through interactive sessions and discussions. Participants explored the transformative potential of 5G in manufacturing, featuring global case studies of 5G Factory implementations and examples of 5G solution deployments enhancing operational efficiency.
In his address, Gobind underscored the significance of digitalisation, automation, AI, and 5G in revolutionising Johor’s manufacturing sector. He remarked, “As a key hub for digitalisation in the country, with 13 data centres spanning over 1.65 million square feet, Johor is poised to attract billions in foreign investment. To fully harness this potential, it is vital for enterprises in the state to adopt 5G use cases and digital solutions.”
DNB CEO Azman Ismail highlighted the organisation’s progress in deploying a world-class 5G infrastructure backbone, which now covers over 80% of Malaysia’s populated areas—a full year ahead of schedule. He noted, “Our 5G network is recognised as one of the fastest and most consistent globally by Ookla, the web testing and diagnostics company. We have also earned awards from OpenSignal, Global Telecom Awards, and FutureNet for performance and innovation, showcasing our network’s readiness for 5G-Advanced technology.”
He added, “As we transition to a competitive, dual-network landscape, DNB remains committed to supporting the Government’s digital agenda by driving 5G adoption to stimulate economic growth and transform how Malaysians live, learn, work, and play.”
The event also marked the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between DNB and KPJ Healthcare Bhd, a subsidiary of Johor Corporation. This collaboration seeks to harness 5G technology to improve healthcare services, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver better patient outcomes.
Separately, DNB engaged with mayors and city councillors from regional municipalities to explore smart city transformation opportunities. This initiative builds momentum towards the Smart City Expo 2025, scheduled for the end of next year, in conjunction with Malaysia’s Asean Chairmanship.
